Hi,

Is support for the IPC protocol needed in listener.ora on AIX servers when
external procedures are not used ? It's not clear to me.

It is not needed, if you configure the BEQ(ueath) protocol in
tnsnames.ora. This make sure you can use a non-routable protocol, when
third party software ignores ORACLE_SID.
