This Oracle Home does not have components/versions required by the
patch.

Can anyone help? I cannot find any information on this, and, Oracle
has not responded to our ITar.......

did you set the environment variable ORACLE_HOME prior to applying the
patch?

did you issue something along the lines of

perl <path_to_OPatch>/opatch.pl lsinventory

prior to

perl <path_to_OPatch>/opatch.pl apply

If it does not see the rdbms components, something must be seriously
wrong.

You are using quite an old version of opatch. Which tells me that you
have not been reading the readme for the patch you are applying.
A very bad idea to not read the full instructions of applying the
patch.
It states there clearly to upgrade to latest opatch before applying.

Are you in the directory where the patch is? Did you download the
right patch? I think you get that sort of error when it can't find the
patch you are trying to apply, judging from Note: 338338.1.

Yes, I am in the directory. This patch, 3741932, is meant for the
9.2.0.7 database.........so, I'm a bit lost here.

Perhaps to alleviate confustion:

Which exact OS are you using? Which exact patch are you applying?

Anurag, are you sure that something like the text below is clear enough?
It doesn't do good enough job to persuade me not to use the old opatch.

####################
####################
####################
##########
#
# Please Note:
# ************
# You should not use OPatch version 10.2.0.1 that is available in
# your ORACLE_HOME, the new OPatch version 10.2.0.1.1 is available
# in the Metalin ARU 8101197, and the bug number is 4898608. Only
# this OPatch should be used to apply this Patch.
#
# Refer to the following link for details on Perl and OPatch:

How in the world should I know not to use the old opatch? It's not even
color coded! It should be displayed in blinking red color, with half an
inch font. Polka dots all over the document would also be a good idea,
preferably the blue ones. Also, a flash animation with the the song "The
End" by the Doors would hint that there is some danger in the air. If
that's too old, then the song "It's my life" by Bon Jovi would probably
attract some attention as well.
