Author Logging into QA with Windows Authentication

I have inherited a stand alone laptop with an application that uses SQLServer
on it. I am not an expert on SQL Server and I do not know the SA password.
With SQL Server running, I tried logging into QA with Windows Authentication,
I received the message:

[Microsoft][ODBC Sequel Server Driver][Shared Memory] Invalid Connection

Can someone help me out?
