Author SQL Mail - Mail Client ERROR

2005-04-29, 3:23 am

I am attempting to set up SQL Mail, but I keep getting the following error
in the SQL Server Agent Log:

"The mail system failed to initialize; check that a mail client been
installed"

I'm running SBS 2003 with all SPs, but do not have Exchange running. I have
successfully set up an Outlook 2003 client and connected to a smtp/pop
server.

After logging into the server under the account that runs the SQL Server
Agent Service, when I test the Mail Session Mail Profile (note I don't not
see the Outlook profile in the dropdown list, only an Outlook Express
profile) under the SQL Server Agent, I get the correct response per the
documentation:
"Successfully started (and stopped) of MAPI session with this profile." -
Note that I don't not see the

When I test the profile using under the Support Services/SQL Mail
properties, I again get the proper response:
"Successfully started (and stopped) of MAPI session with this profile."

Yet, when I attempt to test mail to one of my operators, I get an error:

"Error 22022: SQLServer Agent Error: The SQLServerAgent mail session is not
running; check the mail profile and/or the service startup account in the
SQLServerAgent Properties dialog"

Any ideas?

Make sure that the SQL-mail is configured for the
SQLserver Agent. In enterprise manager you can open the management-tab,
right-clic on
the sql server agent and choose "properties". Here you can configure the
mail-settings for your agent.

I performed all the step, I still get in my SQL Server Agent log the
following error:

"The mail system failed to initialize; check that a mail client been
installed"

I have installed the latest version of SQL 2000 SP2, and Outlook 2003, and I
can send and receive with Outlook when logged into the same account that
starts the SQL Server and SQL Agent Service.

Any more ideas?
