| If I uninstall the service pack, that fixes the problem, but I want to keep
the service pack :(

| All I can say is do some research on the new SP. Personally I never apply a
SP till all the reviews are posted on credible sites. You just never know

| Anyone from Microsoft read these post? Don't they test the SP's?
It's got to be a simple fix.......

| Hi
I have w2k3 SP1 installed on 4 servers and I don't have a problem at all.
SP1 brings with it an updated version of MDAC.
It this occurring on the SQL server or another server that is connecting to
a SQL Server?

| HI,
I only have SQL 2000 with sp 3a and the OS on this. This is a production
server.
When I discovered this error, I went to our development server (at that time
did not have sp1 installed) and check to see if the right click on the table
and open all records/query to see if it worked, it did. right after that, i
installed sp1 and rebooted, then check to see if it still worked, and it did
not.
I installed mdac 2.8 to see if that would fix the issue, then I tried to
register those dll's and I could not register them. I then uninstalled the
sp, and then it worked again.
I did this at one time, so I now it’s the sp that is doing this. I have not
uninstall the sp on the production server yet.
I did notice one other thing, not sure if or how it is related, before I
found out that the query tools do not work in sql server, I when to the
computer management via right click on my computer, then manage and I get a
snap in error: snap-in failed to initialize name: event viewer extension
CLSID:{394c052e-b830-11d0-9a86-00c04fd8dbf7}
This is a pretty new server, less then one month. Everything was working
great and the only thing that changed was the service pack. I should try to
install the sp1 again on the development server to see if I get the same snap
in error…. Monday I guess
Please help with this issue

| Now I also notice when I go to ODBC Administrator i get an error too. "the
ODBC resource DLL (C:\windows\system32
\odbcint.dll) is a different version
than the administrator (c:\windows\system32
\odbcad32.exe). You need to
reinstall the ODBC components to ensure proper operation.
All I can say DO NOT INSTALL SP1.
What ever this service pack did, it's not worth it.
Can anyone help?

| Hi
Have you contacted Microsoft PSS and opened a case?
I have not had a single problem with w2k3 SP1. Have you been able to
reproduce it on other machines?

| Hi Mike, Thank you for your response;
I have not contacted PPS, I was hoping it would be an easy fix.
I’m going to format my development server and reinstall the OS and SP1, then
Install SQL server.
Both servers that I have sql on both have the same issues right after I
installed the SP. This time I’m going to install SQL last.
We also have a web server with out SQL, no issues there.
Does SP 1 install any kind of drivers that might be causing this issue?
Thanks again Mike,
I’ll post a message after I format the server.

| I am having the same problem. I have reinstalled SQL Server Client tools and
SQL2K SP3a. Same result. I have another 2003 Server box that has SQL 2000
SP3a on it, and after installing W2K3 Server SP1, I can no longer open tables
on any SQL Server installation. However, I am able to connect to the W2K3
Server SP1 machine from an XP machine with no problems.
Help please.

| I found the fix to my problem. I found a KB article
(http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...kb;en-us;315868) that listed
some DLLs that need to be re-registered. The dll that seemed to fix it for me
was C:\Program files\Common Files\System\ADO\Msa
do15.dll. Simple browsing to
the directory and running regsvr32 with the /u option yielded an error. To
get it to unregister, I had to enter the absolute path. I was then able to
register the file succesfully and the problem was solved.

| I'm also getting the same error on my 2003 server, so that makes at
least 2 of us!
SQL 2000 already installed. Was fine until I put SP1 on.

| But why did you install SP1 in the first place? I agree it's annoying that
it gives you an error, but if you haven't got any specific problems you know
SP1 fixes, then why don't wait installing it? Also it sounds like you
installed it on a production server without testing it in your test
environment. Personally I'd never apply a SP to a production server before
I've seen it install correctly on a test server. Even though a SP has been
tested in many areas, you never know if you have a specific applikation that
will be causing the troubles.
