Author Receiving email from job output when not indicated...

Ok this is anal but bothering me. I have various jobs setup in Enterprise
manager (backup, t-log backup, optimization, etc.)

On the Job event I have indicated to email our Help Desk ONLY when the job
fails.

However regardless of the job outcome we receive an email everytime it runs.

Anyone else experience this?

Jeff

I haven't seen that. One possible reason is that you have defined a pager notification and it is
out-of hours of the operator is disabled, and the one receiving the email is a fail-safe operator.

Tibor,

I have nothing in pager information in SQL Server Agent properities but I do
have Email Help Desk as the Fail-safe.

Are you saying if I have an entry in this preference that it will disregard
my job preference notifications?

No, but if someone is to be notified by pager (say for a job completion) and that someone isn't
available, then the fail safe operator is notified. If you don't have any pager notification for the
job completion, then the fail safe shouldn't kick in. But perhaps there's a bug in the fail safe
handling? Try removing this as a test (if possible).

Tibor,

I found it....I guess if you check Email Operator on the Datbase Maintenance
Plan on Enterprise Manager, this supercedes any option on the SQL Server
Agent.

Once I unchecked on the maintenance plan, email to..., I do not receive
emails for successful operations and do receive email for failed operations.

Ahh, so the mail was went by the maint plan (sqlmaint.exe), where the jobs by themselves doesn't
send email. Yes, these are two different and independent configurations.

Good catch!
