Author sql service problems after security patches

Hello,
(Windows 2000, SQL 2000 sp3a) After I use windows update to install security
patches via terminal services and reboot the server the SQL service hangs.
Using net stop mssqlserver I can stop the service and then restart it
manually but it wil not start automatically after a reboot. No help form the
SQL or NT logs. Any ideas?
