Error running all queries in SQL Management Studio and VS.NET 2005

I get the following error when performing any operation that generates
a query in SQL Server Management Studio or VS.NET 2005:

An error occurred while executing batch. Error message is: The file
exists.

This happens every time on my machine and has for about the last week.
It happens intermittently on my servers.

Any ideas what's going on and how to fix it?
