Hi,
I have a database containing 1GB data. I have tuned all of queries and
indexes and they perform good comparing with the current hardware. But still
we lack performance! My boss has admitted that the server's hardware must be
upgraded but its my task to choose and offer the appropriate hardware. I'd
like to know how this must be done. Are there any documents explaining that
which upgrade (CPU, DISK or RAM) is critical in particular scenario? What
kind of measurements must be done?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Before getting to the question of what hardware may be good for an upgrade,
I'd first get an understanding of the database performance in terms of where
the bottleneck may lie, and add hardware to address that bottleneck. For
instance, if it's processor bound, it may not help that much to a faster disk.
