Thanks for the reply

My computer name - User2
Remote Server - User03
My D: drive is Mapped drive O: on User03

In Enterprise Manager I connect to User03
and in Backup

I give this path

\\user2\D$

I get error "Permission denied" though the login has backup permission on
the db

running xp_cmdshell does show "Access denied"

How do I grant this permission

You have to grant the NTFS and Share permissions. For both, use Windows
Explorer, right-click on the folder and select Properties. On the Sharing
page you can set up share permissions, on the Security page NTFS
permissions.

The folder is already shared in User2

Does the service account that the SQL Server service is using have permissions on that share?

You need to make sure that the Windows user that SQL Server is using on the remote server have
access and permissions on the share on your local machine.

I see you are rying to do the backup on the administrative share, i.e. on
the root folder. IIRC the default Windows Server 2003 security policy does
not allow writing to the root. Try to make a subfolder, share it and backup
there.
