upgrading from sql 7.0 to sql 2000
|

| we have 7.0 running on an old server (Pentium II), and have just purchased
a new server. We also have SQL 2000 to put on this server.
Can anybody point me to any Microsoft docs that deal with this kind of an
upgrade.
It seems like any instructions about upgrades of servers always deal with
upgrading the same box.
I need to know detailed instructions on migrating my data from the old box
running 7.0 to the new box running 2000.
Thanks.

| SQL 2000 books online has documentation on how to do this upgrade. IIRC the
correct approach is to stop SQL 7, copy the database files to the SQL 2000
server and attach them there. You will have to put all external dependencies
in place before you do this, such as logins, database users, extended stored
procedures, file path dependencies, etc.
