I currently have a live SQLExpress instance and would like to upgrade it to
SQLExpress Advanced to take advantage of the reporting Services. Can this be
done as a standard upgrade or will I be rebuilding the database objects etc?

I believe that installing the Advanced will only add the additional
components to an existing installation. It will not damage your existing
databases.
