Author Licensing question...

I just purchased SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition with 5 cals, and an
additional 5 cals from CDW.

They are overnighting the disks, (and emailing me the 5 addtitional
cals) but since I have MSDN download access, is there any reason I cant
just install from the MDSN and get started right away?

Is the software they are sending me the same as what I download from
MSDN?

I just had a similar situation. I am not sure about MSDN, because
there are lots of demo versions on there, but if you have a Select or
enterprise contract you can download from there. They usually send you
an email with info on how to log on, but it is avail here.

You will be running a server with a different registration than the one you
purchased. Hopefully, your organization won't have any problems with
producing the paper trail when and if you get hit with a compliance audit.

MSDN licensing is only for testing and is not to be used in production
environments. The right thing to do is to wait until your disks
arrive; if you were audited by MS, then you would face a stiff fine
for illegal use of software.
