Author Slow connection to SQL Server using Windows Authentication

Hi

I run SQL Server 2000sp3 in mixe mode authentication. We've always
noticed that the initial connection using Windowss Authentication is
pretty slow. (Eg, a simple embedded SQL query in an Excel workbook
takes <1sec with SQL authentication, but 10-15secs with Windows
Authentication). Starting Query Analyser directly on the server SQL is
running on is quick. I assume therefore that there is a problem outside
the server on the network. I'm not clear about what to check next. What
happens differently when I login on my PC and start QA compared to
being on the server.

Any advice on the what needs checking and in what order would be
appreciated.

Thanks
