According to this article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811484/en-us

Event 318 thrown by SQL Server Agent is a result of another Application's
throwing an Unmhandled exception. Here is my Event 318:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: SQLServerAgent
Event Category: Alert Engine
Event ID: 318
Date: 2/15/2006
Time: 9:56:35 AM
User: N/A
Computer: MYCOMPUTER
Description:
Unable to read local eventlog (reason: The handle is invalid).

As far as I can tell this should happen after an error produced by another
application recorded in the Windows Application Log.

Here is the next recording of Event 318:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: SQLServerAgent
Event Category: Alert Engine
Event ID: 318
Date: 2/15/2006
Time: 4:49:43 PM
User: N/A
Computer: MYCOMPUTER
Description:
Unable to read local eventlog (reason: The handle is invalid).

As you can see there is about a 7 hour difference here from the first Event
ID 318 to the next Event 318. Therefore accoding to this article the
Application responsible should have thrown an Application error between
these two. But here is the ONLY recorded event in the Application Log
between these two Event 318s.

Event Type: Information
Event Source: SceCli
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1704
Date: 2/15/2006
Time: 10:11:34 AM
User: N/A
Computer: MYCOMPUTER
Description:
Security policy in the Group policy objects are applied successfully.

That does not look like an "unhandled exception raised by another
application that runs on the same computer as SQL Server."

So I am at a loss. Can anyone give an explanation besides what was provided
by this article to explain the reason for SQL Agent throwing a Event 318?
