| Hi,
I have my DAC enabled and I also configured remote access connection using
sp_configure but i am "getting Dedicated Administrator Connection is not
supported" error when i try to connect the instance from local instance where
i try to use the DAC.
Any clues appreciated.

| I launch the ms mgmt studio and try to connect to dbase with
"Admin:<servername>\<instance name> following this steps
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms178068.aspx. At first it was
giving "SQL Server doesnt allow remote connections". After that i configured
sp_configure and now it's giving "Dedicated Administrator Connection is not
supported". That's strange. Have i missed out any steps?

| Are you perhaps using SQL Express? DAC is not supported on SQL Express.

| So, are you connecting using SQLCMD.EXE or SSMS and you're a sysadmin?

| So to summarize:
You are connecting to an Enterprise Edition instance on the same box as the
SSMS UI
You are an administrator on the box where SQL Server is running
You are using Admin:. as the connection string in the SSMS connection dialog
with Windows authentication
If all this is true then it must be working.

| Hi Roger,
I'm getting the same issue as rupart. Following all those steps. My only
guess is that an earlier CTP used to be installed on this SQL Server instance
- causing unexpected issues now?
Best Regards,
Joe

| If that is indeed the case, you should be able to check the build versions
of the tools and database to make sure they match. Either that or see if
anything shows up in add/remove programs but I doubt that it will because
older components almost always block install.
