SQL Server 2000 64 bit issues
|
|

| We have a Windows 2003 - 64 bit server where we want to install SQL Server
2000 EE 64 bit. I am getting the:
"The image file D:\setup.exe is valid, but is for a machine type other than
the current machine." error because the processors is AMD Opteron(TM)
Processor 852 ........
I heard that you can install the SQL Server 32 bit then install the 64 bit
SP4 on top of it to make the SQL Server EE 64 bit (We have the license for
both 32-64). Is this possible ? If it is, is there any other configurations
after the install ?
Thanks.

| There is no SQL 2000 x64 version. There is an IA64 version. SQL 2000 SP4
allows the 32-bit (i386) version to run correctly on top of a x64 operating
system. This does not convert the SQL 2000 install to a native x64
application. Licenses for SQL do not differentiate between architectures,
I.E. an Enterprise Edition license is good for any architecture.
SQL 2005 does have a x64 native version.
