| hello,
we've created a java commercial application which uses MSDE and JDBC Driver
the question is how to deploy the driver in instalation package?
we would like to avoid the necessity of downloading the driver by each
customer according to the license.
any suggestion?
thanks

| This is actually one of the biggest reasons for releasing the new Sql Server
2005 driver for Sql Server 2000 and 2005,
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/downloads/2005/jdbc.mspx . We wanted to be able
to offer a redistributable driver. This driver is intended to ship "within a
reasonable window" of Sql Server 2005. Even if the timeline does not work
for you I would like to encourage you to try it out, it is a significant
improvement over the old driver and we need as much beta feedback as we can
get in order to be able to ship a solid product in such a short time.

| we are now releasing beta version of out app to our (potential) customers
may we embeed the new driver in our installation package ?
(as I understood the licence we may not - "You may not test the software in
a live operating environment unless Microsoft permits you to do so under
another agreement.")
can we use it ?
when the final/stable version will be availible ?
thanks
Artur

| Artur:
The current beta license doesn't include redist rights because the intent of
the beta is to not be a production product.
Our plan for the production release of this driver is to offer free redist
rights under a separate agreement, which you could *sign* and download from
the web.
That infrastructure isn't in place yet, but I'd like to help you out in your
scenario, so please mail me offline (shelbyg-at-microsoft-dot-com) and let's
see if we can find a solution. If we manage to work out a way to do this,
I'll post the process back to this group and include it in our next beta.
