SQL Server JDBC - null value

Hi
i am developing a GUI in java to access a ms access database , in one tabel
i have a Date
as variable typ .when i try to update this column with a null value like
this:
UPDATE myTable set Date='NULL' or UPDATE myTable set Date=NULL
it's doesn't work and i am having a exception "java.sql.SQlEception: General
error"
could any one help me ?
