Here's a more general view of what Windows Server clusters are for SQL
Server Failover Clustering:

SQL Server 2000 Failover Clustering
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pr...n/failclus.mspx

and Windows Server Clusters:

Clustering Services
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsser...ng/default.mspx

especially the Windows Clustering Architecture White Papers:

Windows Server 2003 Server Cluster Architecture
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsser...vercluster.mspx

Windows Clustering Technologies: Cluster Service Architecture
http://www.microsoft.com/windows200...clusterarch.asp

Enjoy.

Sincerely,

Anthony Thomas
