We have a 2 node active/passive SQL2K cluster running on Windows 2003
server.

I would like to upgrade the cluster to SP3a for SQL2K, but my time
frame for doing so is a bit limited.

Is it possible to upgrade the passive node without affecting the active
node or disturbing the production environment, even if the upgrade goes
horribly wrong rendering the passive node unusable?

Best case: Upgrade the passive node, fail over and upgrade the active
and my customers won't notice a thing. Possible?

Thanks in advance,
Chris

SP3a installs from the Active node (any node running a SQL instance) and
also upgrades the passive node. You have to do this for every SQL instance
you have. It's best to do this during a maintenance window.

Cheers,

Rod

Thanks very much, kinda what I expected.

By the way,

SP3 will upgrade MSSearch to version 2.0.
If you do have FULLTEXT index, it's better to backup all of index files.
When you did the upgrade, just stop Fulltext, copy all of index files back.
Otherwise, you will have to rebuild all of index.
Good luck.
