SQL Server Management Studio Express not working
|
|
| Joseph I. Ceasar 2005-11-14, 8:24 pm |
| I installed SQL Server Express and SQL Server Managment Studio Express. The
Management tool worked great for one day. Now double clicking on the icon
produces nothing. I uninstalled and reinstalled EVERYTHING and it still
does not launch. Any ideas?
By the way, I think that it may have stoped working after I installed books
on line....

| I did some testing and I found out that SQL Server 2005 Books on line is the
culprit. If i uninstall it, then the Management tool launches just fine.

| The problem was in the Management Studio Express tool released on November
7. There is a new Management Studio Express CTP download available at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...displaylang=en.
This update fixes the defect where installing the full Books Online
documentation prevented Management Studio Express from starting. With the
update, Management Studio Express and Books Online no longer interfere with
each other.
To update Management Studio Express CTP:
1) Uninstall Management Studio Express CTP from your machine.
2) Clear your browser's download cache. If you are using Internet Explorer
6, you can do this by starting Internet Explorer, clicking the Tools |
Options menu item, and then clicking the "Delete Files..." button in the
"Temporary Internet Files" section.
3) Download and run SQLServer2005_SSMSEE
.msi (or
SQLServer2005_SSMSEE
_x64.msi) from the URL listed above

| Hi,
Me too had the same problem...but solved by deleting a key folder using
REGEDIT.
The key folder is
& #91;HKEY_LOCAL_MACHI
NE\SOFTWARE\Microsof
t\Microsoft SQL
Server\90\Tools\Shel
l]
After installing the SQL Books Online..this problem came. But after
deleting this...no problem with "SQL Books Online" and "Management
Tool"
Have a look on this forum link..
