Can instance of Microsoft BCM effect installation of alt MSDE inst

I am having difficulty installing MSDE on an XP Sp2 system with the Microsoft
Business Contact Manager installed (Hooks into Outlook). I checked all my
standards... ie folder for my instance not there, registry key for my
instance not there, my instance not installed in the add-remove programs.
Since the normal didn't work, I stopped the instance of Microsoft BCM and
then retried the MSDE installation. I have the msi log file with verbose
(voicewarmup) settings. Can anyone help me make heads and tails of this?

I get some "Won't Patch" lines near the end and then suddenly the install
reverses and everything gets uninstalled (rolled back, but I can't seem to
see the reason for it):

please locate

entriy(es) ... about 10/15 lines before (each) entry some (sometime cryptic)
descrition of the problem will be reported..
