Author scheduled dts executing

i have one dts job that is scheduled for multiple execution during the night
to collect data from periferal workstations.
sometimes, one of hundred runs, job reports success, and is really done, but
refuses to *terminate*, on active job list it still stays, thus preventing a
next scheduled run to occur, so this breaks our data collection process.
this job has only one step, dts action.
upon this, i have to stop & restart job manualy, from enterprise manager.

there are two identical computers, located inside same lan segment, one
running database [and nothing else], and second is doing nothing else but
running data collecting jobs.
os=win2000 server
sql=8.00.760 (sp3)

question is:
why would [sometimes] scheduled job reporting success, but refusing to
automaticly terminate [exit, stop]?

thnx
