ODBC option as source for AS2005 Missing?!?

| I notice that when creating a data source in an Analysis Services Project
within VS2005 that there is no option for an ODBC datasource. Yet when I
create an Integration Services Project, that provides a native ODBC .Net
Provider. Am I missing something or is it not possible to create a cube
directly from an ODBC source without importing it first into SQL Server?
Thanks.

| That is correct -- ODBC is not a supported direct data source for AS 2005.
You can create a linked server in SQL Server to the ODBC data source and
build the cube from there.
The main issue is Tools are .NET and the .NET ODBC provider does not support
some of the features required by the Tools.
Thanks,
Akshai
