Author subcubes - Scope() versus Filter

Are the two exactly alike? What are the differences if any? Which one
gives better performance?

When I add a item to Subcube in the BIDS Cube Browser, that translates
to a Filter condition in the underlying MDX. Am not sure if that is the
same as scope.

Related prob is that I would like to pass a client parameter to either
Subcube or Filter. I cannot find how to do that in my dwproj. Do I have
to do this in Reports or in a .Net component type of object?

Thanks a lot
