| Hi folks
I wonder if anyone can help me. I'm just about to start getting to grips
with OLAP for SQL Server 2000. Not bad, considering we've been using SQL 2K
for nearly 4 years!
Anyway, I'm in the UK, and I want to get myself a good book on the subject.
Ideally, the book that I bought would be one that would start off at a very
basic level, and progress to more advanced stuff. Can anybody recommend a
good title?

| If you want to design and build cubes, start with "SQL Server 2000
Analysis Services, Step by Step".
To learn MDX, first read, "Fast Track to MDX" then advance to "MDX
Solutions"
Augment these books with the Analysis Services tutorials and Books On
Line

| This page lists many SQL Server OLAP-related books:

One thing to consider, with SQL Server 2005 (Yukon) due to be relased
later this year, is whether you wish to focus solely on SQL Server 2000
at this stage or not. There are many significant changes/improvements to
consider.

| The MDX Solutions book by George Spofford by far goes the deepest.
Definitely not the book you want to start off with, but one that is an
essential tool in any OLAP monkey's took chest. Unfortunately, George
starts geeking out in OLAP in chapter one and the novice could quickly
become lost. I concur with what Mark said for starting out with
regards to Step By Step and Fast Track To MDX, but I wouldn't be caught
dead without my MDX Solution's book in the long run. In fact...the
pages on mine are starting to fall out and I may have to buy another
copy just because the one I have is so worn.
