| Hi,
No matter how much I tried, I can't get msmdarch archive a database from a
command line...
Doesn't give any errors...doesn't display anything at all...
OS: Windows 2000 with SQL 2000 and AS and sp3
SQLAgent running on local administrator's account (in the OLAP
Administrators group as well).
Please help me....
What could be wrong?

| Hi,
Sometimes that happens!
I have seen it in at least 2 situations:
* Only 1 instance of msmdarch can be executing on the server. Maybe other
user is alreading using it.
* You are having privilege problems in some of the directories. E.g., no
access to the OLAPDATA, or to the “Program Files” (it maybe odd but sometimes
I need to have write privileges on the “Program Files” directory or at least
on “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Analysis Services”), or to the temp and
destination directory/file.

| Hi,
Thanks so much for the reply...but the AS is only on my pc and i logged in
as the Administrator...
In Windows 2003 though, there is problem where the folders are demarked as
ReadOnly even though they are not...
But I tested this on a Windows 2000 Pofessional and logged on as the local
Adminstrator....still no luck...
what else could be wrong...

| Hi,
We were also Administrators and also had privilege problems! E.g., if you
UNC make sure that you have full control on both the share and physical disk.
We were able to put it work giving Full Control from "C:\Program Files" as
ALL its sub-directories. It might be a security breach but it works.

| Can you run an Archive from Analysis Manager? (you may get better error=20
messages from the GUI)
Try accessing the \\<server>\MsOlapRepository$ share and see if you can=20
create a simple text file and delete it, if not there is something wrong=20
with your permissions.
The MsOlapRepository$ share is a hidden share used for accessing the=20
access repository. Some of these issues go away when you use SQL Server=20
for the repository.
