Hi,

I just bought a new computer and it does not have a 31/2" drive installed. I have dBase for Windows v5 on 31/2" disks that I have used for many years. I need to put it on the new computer. I have tried copying it to a CD, but the really smart people who w
rote this program have a hidden file in there that won't copy, so I can't use that method to transfer it to the new computer. I really don't want to upgrade and I would rather not install a 31/2" drive just to load this program on the new computer. The fi
le I need is BIVBX11.dll. Does anyone have any suggestions? I did a search for the file and it shows up as an application extension file, but I can't find it anywhere to copy it.

I understand why the code writers did this, but it doesn't make it any easier for me. I really do not want to use MS Works which is installed on my computer, because it is not as user friendly as dBase and I don't have the time or inclination to learn a n
ew program.

Thanks for any help.

Lillian,

You should invest in an external USB 3.5 inch drive. They are about 35.00
to 40.00 dollars and since they are USB you plug and unplug it without
rebooting your PC.

I would approach this the same way I would approach moving into a new
home and finding out that it didn't supply hot water to the kitchen
sink. Even though people doing the selling have decided that people
don't need such a thing I know I need it and want it.

1. If I didn't know the new PC didn't have a 3.5 floppy drive when I
bought it I would insist that the seller install one for which I would
only pay for the parts - $20 or less for the drive and cable.

2. If I knew it didn't have the drive when I bought it and discovered I
had made a mistake I would try to get the same deal as above and failing
that I would pay an additional $10 for the labor. By the way the drive
and cable from your old computer should work just fine in the new PC
since these parts have not changed over the last 15-16 years. So you
might get them reinstalled free or for a nominal labor charge.
