Author Installing dBase5.7

Hi,

I have recently installed 5.7 on a new computer running xp. My old computer, which was still connected to the network, was running Windows 2000. Now, when the the old machine is switched off, db5.7 takes forever to load, although it runs ok once loaded. W
ith the old machine switched on, it sings along as before. I have tried uninstalling, disconnecting the old machine from the network and re-installing, but to no avail. It seems to me that the new machine is searching for a file on the old machine and hav
e therefore checked paths etc. I've perused the register on the new machine for clues, but with no success. I'll probably have to get rid of the old machine soon - has anybody out there got any ideas?

Thanks,

Mick

First thing to jumps to mind is the default printer.

Is the default printer associated with the computer that you have
switched off?

If so, try setting the default printer to something that is not on the
network.

It could even be switched on. We had difficulties with WP sp2 conneting to a
shared printer on a win98 box. The new security wouldn't let the drivers
talk to each other.

I suggest a software printer if you have it, as these will always be on.
ie, Adobe Acrobat or the new M$ document manager.

Thanks Ken,

I'm sorry I couldn't reply earlier, but it was a public holiday in the UK and then the server was down.

My printer is now off network, so I re-installed dBase but still hit the same problem. I chatted your suggestion through with our IT Manager who then did a search through the register to see what references there were to the old machine. As I am a Treasur
y Manager, I administer a voice recording system and my old machine had been set up as a server for this. After unmapping this drive from my new computer, everything now works hunky dorry. It's a bit of a mystery as nowhere in BD5.7 pointed to this server
and my version of DB2 has never been a problem.

Thanks again,

Mick
