Author ComboBox Responding VERY Slowly

Recently my ComboBoxes have been responding VERy slowly. This includes not only those on my own applications, but the navigator file 'look in' drop down, and even the inspector compnent drop down is pathetically slow when switching between entries.

Please help with any insights, it's crippling me!

Some have pointed out issues with the Microsoft XP auto-upgrades and
safety software ... you might check the newsgroups for messages about this.

Hi John,
I am currently experiencing the same condition. I have run several
anti-virus & anti-spyware programs (thinking that might be the cause), but
nothing I have done has solved the problem. Hope you are able to find the
answer...
Chris

Yes, I think it was the MS anti spyware and believe the last release of
dBASE addressed that issue (and you could turn off the MS feature).

Todd:

I specifically turned off all MS Spyware functionality and the problem persists ... I am still using 2.5 because of the known issues in 2.6.

Okay, I'm only passing along what I read in another thread as I have not
seen this problem personally. The stated cause of the problem was MS
Spyware, the suggested fix was to disable realtime protection.

I did find some improvement when I disabled Symantec AV "file system auto-protect" - however this did not make it go away.

The issue seems to deal with Symantec Client Security 3 firewall and SAV 10.x. Neither one disabled on it's own solves the speed issue, but both off will make dBase sail once again. The SAV portion responsible seems to be the File system auto-protect.

If anyone has discovered the settings that allow these to remain on and still keep dBase happy and fast.

It seems to be primarily related to Spybot S&D. I also carved out the Symantec resident in SAV to ignore dBase Plus. Seems to be back at full speed.

Thanks for the update. Glad you got it back up to speed.
