Hello everyone

I apologise that this is probably off topic gut I need some general
information

Is there a general tutorial on the use of news groups?

I notice that many of the webpages have links to newsgroups . will these
newsgroups appear in the newsgroup listing that I periodically
update using outlook express

Are these newsgroups the same as the google newsgroups?

I once downloaded a lot of stuff from newsgroups and landed up with many
viruses how is a good way to protect my computer from this happening again

regards

No, Google Newsgroups is a searchable archive of the USENET, with archives
of certain private newsgroups (such as these and the MSFT groups) included
for good measure.

- Don't download anything from USENET.
- Virus check anything you *must* download from USENET.

A network of news servers between which postings to public newsgroups are
propagated:

Most of the time. But the dBASE Newsgroups are not USENET, they are not
propagated publicly, they are hosted on a private server.
