Is it possible to run my application as a demo from CD?

HI,

I wrote an article about this soe time ago in the dbulletin. Cat remember
which one it was. It was for dbase 7, but the principle should be the same.

I found your article. Thanks so far. But..., when I start my demo app I get
the message 'cannot find engine configuration file'. I put this in myapp.ini
file, [IDAPI]
ConfigFile01=IDAPI32
.cfg, but do I maybe have to change the name
configfile01 and in my opinion idapi32.cfg (I have a idapi32.cnf in the
root)is nowadays idape32.cnf???

Thanks, Nico.

HI,

Long time since I did that. But I would definatley change the name. It seems
that it cannot find the IDAPI32.cfg file, thats because you have the file
under a different name idapi32.cfn

I am sorry, but I think I don't understand you quit well, Robert. The name
configfile01 comes as well from your article. How does that name relate to
the BDE and/or my application? Maybe I have to change that name?

See bdeAdmin.hlp -> Configuration management:

"The BDE Administrator is installed with the BDE. Assuming you have no
other BDE-based applications on your workstation at installation time,
the installation program sets up IDAPI.CFG as the default BDE
configuration file. This means that the first time you open the BDE
Administrator it will display the parameters stored in IDAPI.CFG as
well as the Windows Registry.

The default configuration file, if any, is defined in the Windows
Registry under:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Borland/Database Engine/CONFIGFILE01

The BDE Administrator gives you the option of saving configuration
information in two formats: 32-bit format and a composite 16-/32-bit
format for compatibility with 16-bit BDE applications. See Saving
configuration information for details about how and where
configuration information may be stored".

If you're not using a modified configuration file for the BDE, chances
are good you can leave that line out of the .ini file.
