| Hello Dario
*******I ASSUME YOU ARE FAMILIAR WITH LINUX
To run dBASE under Wine:
Your Linux will require a GUI desktop such as KDE or Gnome
Make sure that Wine is up to date. Many Linux distributions install with an
old version - check the www.winehq.org website for updates.
Make sure that Wine is working properly on the machine - test one of the
popular programs listed in the Application Database at wineHQ.org to ensure
that it is working okay.
Install dBASE from the CD - I was not able to get Wine to run the main
insaller; I had to navigate to the install folder and run setup from there.
Then it should run!
I cannot help further than this because I have not been successful recently
using this configuration:
-installation on a machine with no Windows partition
-using FreeBSD 5.3
For me, the dBASE Plus installer will not function properly (dB2K either) -
some errors come up during installation regarding paths.
I try to run it anyway but it hangs on the dBASE splash screen.
The BDE Administrator will run.
3 or 4 years ago, I was (mostly) successful in getting dB2K to run in Wine
under these conditions:
-it was on a multi-boot machine so Wine had access to the native Windows
dlls
-it was using Mandrake (now called Mandriva) 8.2 Linux
I posted some results on the dbase newsgroups at that time. You may be able
to locate the posts with google.
Good luck

| Hi,
I use FreeBSD 5.4 with KDE Desktop.
The Wine is last version.
My instalation of wine is no windows partition and i run the NOTEPAD.EXE
normally. I instaled runtime dBase 2.01 normally but when i run the
little test.exe without access database i receive error. I put the
runtime same directory off aplication and i receive error.
I like runing must dBase application and not dBase development and my
application use psqlodbc for access PostgreSQL.
Is possible?
Thanks,
Dario.

Is there an error message?
Is it a dBASE error or a Wine error or an OS error?
The only thing I can suggest here is try switching the dlls, if possible.
Wine gives you the option somewhere of using theirs (built-in) or whatever
comes with the application (native). I was not successful here, and I don't
even know if I was doing it correctly. Whatever I did, it still hung. Some
errors that I was getting indicated a problem with oleaut32.dll and I tried
switching but it did not help. The most recent version of Wine claims to
have some ole improvements but I don't know the details.
I'm kinda worried about the odbc stuff - I don't know if Wine can do that
yet. Hoepfully, I am wrong, but I would start with some dbf tables first and
work up to odbc.
Good luck
