Author Multiple Programs Open

Hello Experts,

I have three editions of my Dbase Plus program set up - one that is the
actually running program with live databases, second one is a TEST ZONE and
the third one is my CONSTRUCTION area. This way I can make changes and try
stuff in the CONSTRUCTION area and compare that with results from TEST ZONE
and then when I like what I see, I can update the changes to my actually
program. Those details aren't important but the problem is that I can only
have two of these open at any one time. When I try to open the third
program, I always get the following error:

Unable to Load FRAMEWINDOW object - Resource not found

Is there a way around this or is there a system limitation to only running
two instances of Visual Dbase on Windows XP?

Thanks for any input,

Jerry Rivenbark

HI jerry,
Its a window resourse issue. This has happened to me aswell. Close as many
open windows as you can, have as little background apps running, tasktray
items, services. You hsould find that the more stuff closed, more resources
are freed more dbase windows can be opened and vice-versa

Robert, I'd agree if it were a Win9x machine, but allegedly
(http://www.apptools.com/rants/resources.php) the NT-related OS's can allocate
RAM for resources as needed, so don't have the same very limited GDI and User
resources. Perhaps in this case the problem is the amount of RAM? Or perhaps
it's a different problem entirely.

Hello again,

I wouldn't think it's a ram issue, I am using an Intel Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.2
ghz with 992 MB of RAM so I wouldn't think RAM would be the issue.

Thanks for the research and advice on this issue.

One extra thing, I'm running Windows XP and DBASE PLUS was the first
programs I installed on my computer and from the start, I was still limited
to running two instances of DBASE at one time.

Talk with you later,

On my Win2K machine I can load 3 instances of dBASE Plus before I get the same
error msg and failure to load #4...I suspect it's a RAM problem.

Sorry, didn't see this msg before posting the other reply---yeh, 992MB would
seem to cover things pretty well in that dept. So who knows---resources are a
mysterious thing. I wonder why I can load 3 instances...and with far less RAM
than you have.

get the same error here with PLUS IDE
on xp pro with 256 meg ram.

but,
was able to run 6 different dBASE apps
in runtime with no problem.

was able to run 6 different instances
of the same dBASE app in runtime.

did not try more than 6.
