If I understand you correctly you have a report (filename.rpt) in C:\apply directory. CR should have made filename.qbe which indicates which table is to be used.
Provided the path to the table is edited (in the QBE file) to point to the renamed directory, then the report should run correctly (now in renamed directory along with it's QBE file)

Which driver did you chose in CR9?
Most likely you chose "IDAPI Databases" for Level-7?
If so, there is no chance to use an alias from within CR 9.
There are 2 ways, a: via report-designer, b: via OLEAutomation.
If you need to change the location only very seldom, the method a:
is the best.
For this you need to open CR9 and open the report you want to change.
You must go to the main-menu then, look for something like
"Database/specify Datasourcepath". I can not tell you the EXACT way,
because I am already for a long time using CR10 and forgot a bit
about CR9.
If you found this menu where to "specify datasourcepath", you will
see in an "upper" window your old path. In the window on the bottom,
you must "chose new connection", "IDAPI Databases".
Then chose your new path.
For every table in the upper window, you must chose a table in the
lower window and then press "Refresh" for every new connection.
This is, by the way, also the best way to change the database-driver
or just the names of the tables.
I hope this helps,
ciao,
André
