Many years ago, a friend installed a program for me to catalog all my records and cd's using dBase III Plus. I would like to transfer the files
containing this program to another machine, but, when I copy the files to disc and download them to the other machine, I am unable to open the files. Can anyone help?

The files probably have the ReadOnly attribute set if you copied the files
to a CD then to the other machine. On a Windows XP machine go into My
Computer and locate the files. Right click a file and select Properties and
then uncheck the ReadOnly checkbox. Do that for each file with the
extension of .dbf, .mdx, .ndx, .dbt.

What happens when you try to open the files? Do you get an error
message? What's the error message? What operating system are you
using? How are you trying to open the files? How did you copy the
files to disk? How did you copy the files from disk? We need more
details. Otherwise, we are just guessing.
