Author MP3 files

I'd like to create an app where I can drag and drop an mp3 file from a windows explorer window and have the ID3 information from the file be imported into record fields. Is this doable and if so any hints on how to do it. New to current version of dBase
but comfortable with 5.7. Thanks in advance for all help.

Hi Mike,

What is it that youre looking for. I wrote an app in dbase that does just
that. It uses a cc that reads ID3v1 and ID3v2 Tags, written in plus. I only
read a few important tags, because there are hundred of possible tags, but
not all mp3 uses them. The most common are title, artist, album, track,
year, comment, composer, genre. Ther are many others, but they are generly
not there are pretty useless.
I also make use of a dll, that reads the mpeg header information like, bit
rate, length, VBR, frequency, mode, duration

I might be willing to make it sharewhare if others are interested.

Hi Robert,

Just re-read your post. What I am looking to do is create an app where I can create a radio show log using the drag and drop method to quickly fill mp3 names rather than re-typing them. Then print the log as a report. I may look at exporting the mp3 in
fo from the report to make a playlist that will work in mp3 player too.

HI Mike,

Yeah I guess you could do that aswell, even play mp3's. I gues I would have
to make some changes to drag from explorer, currently it searches the HD for
mp3 files to log and file in a catalog type basis. I guess I could also
export a play list, but I play the mp3 direct from the app. Winamp is fancy,
but to just select and play from inside the app is all I needed at this
time.
