Reaching the IBM extended Char Set

I have been unsuccessful in getting at the IBM extended character set in order to use/stream the "box drawing characters. Chapter 21-1 says that the default language driver in the US is DB437US0, which I have confirmed. However I cannot get these cha
racters to print. I have tried chr(###), OEM(chr(###)) in order to get at the 'alternate' set - nothing.

If someone can give me a suggestion, I'd appreciate it.
