Author C.Itoh printer or best printer to buy?

If these questions have already been answered, can somebody point me to the right place(s).

I'm kind of a novice at this.

I use dBase III+ and just upgraded to Windows XP. I have an old C.Itoh SERIAL printer but there doesn't seem to be an XP driver available. Does anybody have a driver?

If I buy a new printer, how do I get dBase to work with an impact printer? What's the best printer to buy?

C.Itoh is out of business for at least 10 years.

The printer still works absolutely perfectly. It's crazy to upgrade both dBase and the printer for close to $1,500 which is as much as the new computer cost.

If there is a human being I can talk to, I would be gratetful.

Thanks.

Frank:

The driver I cannot comment on, but under XP, open your printers folder, select the properties of the printer you want, and click the ports tab. Select "enable printer pooling", and the select an additional port - most likely LPT1: This will effectiv
ely reroute (capture) to satisfy dBaseIII.

In article <Ea9FlZU6GHA.416@news-server>, norrico@nyc.rr.com says...

Have you tried installing the printer as a generic printer? It dates
from the time before printer drivers <g>, and all dBase III+ needs is a
generic one.

However, support for serial printers is almost nonexistent with Windows
XP. You may have to upgrade to a simple printer that attaches to the
parallel port (yes, they still exist <g> ) and modify your program to
print to lpt1, for example, instead of com1.

If you get a printer that has usb connectivity only or have a computer
without a parallel port, then use John's suggestions for printer pooling
and change your program to print to lpt1.

Hope this helps.
