Connection Error - Symposium Database from Excel (fatal error)
|

| Raoul Duke 2005-06-07, 8:23 pm |
| When attempting to create a new query in Excel to access
information from the Sybase database (blue) MS Query fatal
errors and these are the only details:
AppName: msqry32.exe AppVer: 10.0.2607.0 ModName:
syodase.dll
This was working up until recently. Is there a maximum limit
on ports or connections for a sybase connection?
We have been running and still are deploying, excel tools to
display national data from our symposium databases, all of a
sudden i am unable to build any more tools!
Excel version is 2002
Windows version XP SP2
Symposium 4.01.07
Sybase ODBC connection (unsure - it says 3.50.00.10)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

| Hi Raoul,
Something had to change to cause this error.
One thing I do know is this:
The 3.50.0010 Sybase ASE ODBC Driver version is an EOL driver, no longer
supported. You should upgrade the ODBC Driver to the level found in the
Sybase SDK 12.5.1 with the most current EBF (12531). The 3.50 driver is
ctlib based and it is limited to 25 ctlib connections from the same context.
Is this happening? When you do sp_who on the ASE you see these connections
getting used up? There may be a way to get around this, depenind on the
Open Client version that you are using.
However, the recommendation is to get off that driver and update to the
current level.'
