I'm not clear as to the technologies involved here.

Are you saying that the customer has created a Proxy Table from ASA to
MSSQL?
How do "views" come into play here?
What do you mean when you say that the customer can "see your tables" ?

Also, please post the exact version and build number of SQLAnywhere that
they are using (use the command "dbeng8 -v").

Thanks,

Greg

Unfortunately I do not have any more information. It was a single email from
one of the IT folks. I'll paste it below and maybe something else stands
out to you.....

I have successful create a link and I can see all the tables but when I try
to run a SQL Server View over the linked server I got the attached error
message.

In the new created link I have the provider option "allow InProcess" ticked
and in the select statement I ignore the catalogue as per specifications.

SELECT *

FROM MYDB..DBA.strike_reports strike_reports_1

A few articles in the net recommends Sybase to be updated to include
revised stored procedures required for linked server support.

I have not heard from him since so have not had a chance to confirm the
build number but IIRC it is 8.0.2 3601

Thanks for your help so far

Greg

For the record, the latest ASA8 build is 8.0.3.5331.

I had mentioned that to him that if necessary we could migrate it up if
he(or anyone in this ng) feels the problem lies with the build he's on, but,
I have not heard back from him yet regarding the status

Greg,

It sounds like they are trying to use MS SQL Server technology called Linked
Server to create a proxy connection from SQL Server to ASA. You can easily
create a proxy from ASA to SQL Server using a remote server connection, but
being as I know little about SQL Server, I'm not sure if it will work from
SQL Server to ASA.

If my assumption is correct, MS SQL Server --> ASA, then you might want to
post your question in the SQL Server newsgroup. They might be able to supply
a better response there.

Creating a linked server to ASA should be possible; however, there have been
some recent fixes in this area. I'd suggest using ASA 9.0.2.3180 or later.
ASA 8.0.3.5293 or later may also work.

Whitepapers, TechDocs, bug fixes are all available through the iAnywhere
Developer Community at http://www.ianywhere.com/developer
