| Please forgive me if I posted to the wrong newsgroup, I didn't see
anything related to just a general forum for Sybase Products. I have
been an MSSQL Server developer for the last 7 years. Recently, I
changed jobs and became an IT director for a non-profit organization.
The primary job function I have is to re-engineer a case management
software solution, my question is what would be the best Sybase db to
use and for what reason? Here are some more details:
The case management solution will need to be distributed to about 30
different sites. Each site will have its own database but will need to
be able to replicate or export data into a database housed at our
coalition headquarters. In addition to this data transfer model, I
will also need to export this data in a format that can be used by a
third party that provides much of our grant funding.
Another thing, these people are very concerned about privacy, so
concerned that a web based application is out of the question so the
application will be developed in VB .NET with a Sybase DB on the
backend. I am switching to Sybase because I think it will be less
expensive and their UI to the database is much cleaner than using
Enterprise Manager in MSSQL server for times when I may have to have a
user step through records.
Does anyone have a suggestion for the Sybase product to use? I was
thinking about SQL Anywhere but am just not familiar enought with the
capabilities of SQL Anywhere or any of the other products.
Thank you in advance, sorry this was such a long question.
