Author Licensing Not Restricting

Sybase 9.0.2 Build 3169 OEM Version

Have used dblic to license the database engine (dbsrv9.exe) to 2 seats
but more than 2 seats are allowed to connect to the DB. What must I
check to find out why this is being allowed and how to make the licenses
work? Very frustrating.

Thanks,
Nathan

How many connections can you establish with the database? When the database
server is licensed for 2 seats, then you should be able to make 2 unique IP
connections, plus an extra connection if needed by the DBA. Note that each
connection must come from a unique IP address. All connections from the same
IP are considered 1 connection.

And AFAIK any connection made from the same machine hosting the server
engine is not considered a connection. It is assumed that the connection
is an administrative connection.

We can connect with 4 clients, all on different machines on the same
subnet, but unique IPs. One of the clients is on the server machine
itself, the other 3 are remote.

Can you post the files sa_conn_info.txt and sa_eng_properties generated
from the following:

call sa_conn_info();
output to sa_conn_info.txt;

and

call sa_eng_properties();

output to sa_eng_properties.txt

From Chris' earlier description, that seems correct: the one from the
server doesn't count, 2 regular users, and one DBA connection. Have you
tried making a fifth connection?

Nathan, your sa_conn_info shows that there is a single connection to the
database from the same machine where the database engine is running. Can
you please run sa_conn_info at a time when you believe you have too many
users connected.

This shows that there is an engine already running on this computer.
This server is licensed for 2 per-seat licenses. There is a single
connection being made on the same machine.

I was not clear in my first post. Can you rerun the sa_conn_info capture
at the time that you are seeing the connection exceeding the 2 seats.

Thanks

This was probably not clear -- one client connection from the server, 3
from remote machines. Thus, the one on the server doesn't count, true,
but the three remotes should be limited to 2.

Ah! Whoops. I wondered.

Ok, will have the tester set that scenario up again.

Thanks,
Nathan

Well....upon having our tester re-setup the scenario where she got too
many machines connected, it suddenly works. GO FIGURE. :P~

Thanks for your time...I think I'll close it as a PEBKAC error for now.

Much appreciated,
Nathan
