Version updates - NOT

| As usual, I was trailing through the posts on this group - I learn a lot
from everything here - and I thought I'd do a version check on my SQLA
v9 installation. The answer I got was 9.0.0.1008, so I thought I'd
better update it. But I actually remembered updating - or I thought I
did - a month or so ago, so I started looking into the issue.
Turns out that a standard install of SQLAnywhere sets up several
directories, and places copies of some .EXEs and .DLLs in those
directories. That's fine, but the updates (in my case the EBF to 3221)
only overwrite the copy in the Sybase\Shared folder, and leave all other
copies of the files alone, even though they were installed as part of a
standard Sybase install. Further, there's a directory that's created
called "deployment", and this also contains a batch of EXEs and DLLs
which are also not updated. So when I deploy an application, it looks as
if I'm deploying outdated files, and setting both myself and clients up
for possible version mismatches and problems.
Am I doing something wrong, or is this a standard Sybase feature that
everyone but me knew about (I told you I learn a lot here!) or is there
some other explanation for this ? Any feedback would greatly help,
especially from the Team members who (unofficially) lurk here.
Thanks,
Nigel

| If you are going from 9.0.0 to 9.0.2, you must first apply the 9.0.2 MR
and then the EBF. Did you install the MR before applying the 3221 EBF?

Thanks for your very quick response, Chris
Yes, I did install the maintenance release first. I've forgotten which
version that would have brought the original installation to, but it
also seems to have affected only the main WIN32 directory, and not the
other copies of the files; I just re-checked the version numbers of a
sampling of the DLLs in the deployment directories, and they all remain
at 9.0.0.1108 (I think I got the number incorrect in my original post).
Is the maintenance release supposed to update these files as well ?

| That is very odd. While we do occasionally have problems in the install,
I do not recall ever encountering anything to this degree.
I assume that you are logged in with sufficient privileges to affect the
files in the install?
Could you consider retrying the installs from scratch? If that continues
to not yield expected results, you may want to work with support to try
and diagnose the issue.

I do have administrator privileges, and I may have time over the weekend
to do as you suggest; right now I'm tearing my hair out with another
SQLA problem about which no-one seems to know any answers. I've posted
it here before but the one reply, although useful, didn't help. I've
re-posted it under a different thread name, "Database freezes server" ;
I'd be really grateful if you cold take a quick look at it and see if
you can offer your usual sage advice.
Thanks,
Nigel
