Maximum reasonable size for ASA

Hi all
Our company is using SQL Remote replication between ASA at the remote sites
and ASE as a consolidated database in the head office. Because of the end
of life of SQL Remote for ASE later this year, we are looking at different
options for moving forward. One of these is migrating the consolidated
database to ASA. The question is, what is the performance of ASA like on
larger databases? Currently, our ASE consolidated is about 20GB, with the
largest tables having around 20 million rows. This is not huge, but I have
no experience on ASA with that kind of data.
All of our systems are running on Win2K boxes, with the consolidated DB on a
four-processor machine.
Opinions / experiences appreciated

| We have had numerous customers running with databases of that
size.
Also, you can keep the ASE server and replace SQL Remote
with MobiLink.
Either solution is acceptable. How acceptable will depend upon
which works best for you.

| 20 Gb is not a problem. We have ASA DB > 100Gb in size.

| You may also want to consider moving to MobiLink. There's a on-line
whitepaper available here with some information on how that could be
accomplished : http://www.ianywhere.com/whitepaper...ate_to_ml.html.
IMHO, I believe it would be easier to migrate the consolidated to ASA and
continue to use SQL Remote, but you should at least look into using
MobiLink, as there are many benefits to using MobiLink over SQL Remote.

| Interesting....
How many concurrent users would you say is hitting your DB?

Thanks people...
I've read the document and some Mobilink documentation as well. It looks
promising but quite challenging as well, we'd have to do quite a bit of work
on the consolidated. On the other hand, we could then move to Microsoft SQL
Server which everybody else in this company is keen on (tried to get them to
see the Linux light to no avail...:(
It just seems that moving the ASE to ASA might be less work, if ASA can pull
it off...
Thanks again

ASA certainly can handle the size of database you are talking about.
As for concurrent users, take a look at this story:

Hope this helps,

| Not so much. 1-2 inserting, updating, and 10-20 browsing.
