Author ASA9 server suddenly refusing ASA7 clients to connect

2005-06-21, 7:24 am

Environment:
Windows 2K/XP
ASA 9.0.2.3044 (server)
ASA 7.0.4.3538 (client)

We have some applications, which cannot use the ASA9-driver,
so they connect to our server using the ASA7 driver.

This has been running fine for a couple of months. And out
of nowhere the server won't connect ASA7 clients. ASA9 clients
are fine.

I even tried a local connection on the server (not shared memory,
but using tcpip). No luck.

So we stopped and restarted the database server, and everything
is back to normal. Some of my co-workers claim, that this had
happened before, but with ASA8 clients connecting to a ASA7 server.
Back then a DB restart was necessary too.

Is this a known issue? Is there workaround, or is our setup
somehow causing this?

TIA.

regards/Peter Simonsen
