Hi,

Have a customer who wants to run 64bit Windows 2003 Server.

We currently have a 32 bit platform of Sybase 7.0.4.3340 and Powerbuilder
7.0.3.10213 for the front end. In the next few months we are updating to
Sybase 9.0.2.3044 and Powerbuilder 9.0.2.7509 (still using 32 bit).

Are there any problems using these applications on a 64 bit Windows
environment? Any help much appreciated.

Regards
David

Assuming you mean "Windows 2003 Server x64 Edition", ASA 32-bit and
64-bit software should run fine. 32-bit ASA apps can also communicate
with a local 64-bit server & vice-verse. I don't know how 32-bit
PowerBuilder behaves on x64 Edition but I would expect it to be fine.

If you are talking about the Itanium version of Windows running 32-bit
code I would advise you to test thoroughly and expect it to be slower
than you could possibly imagine. In theory, they have added a new
software x86 emulator to Windows 2003 for Itanium that is supposed to
give better performance than the x86 hardware that is on the Itanium
chip (really!) but I have not tried it.

Assuming Windows 2003 Server x64 Edition, I have a 32 bit PB/C++ using 64
bit ASA app running without any problems. I have also used PB10 to design
and deploy on the server and it also runs with no drama. I have installed
32bit Office (well there is no 64 bit Office yet) and have had no problems
with anything so far.Lack of 64 bit printer and modem drivers is the only
trouble I am having at the moment, but I am sure that will pass as people
get their acts together.
