| Hi,
I have a little problem. We are using for some of our customers a RedHat 9
server with ASA 9 installed on it. Everything works fine, but in Sybase
Central we don't have a tabpage "Services".
But we are still able to connect to the service that starts automatically
when the server boots. For this automatically start we use a script from
Greg Fenton
(http://groups.google.be/group/sybas...61aa34
8b).
Can anybody tell me why I can't see the tabpage "services" in Sybase Central
on a Linux-machine. And what I can do to see that page.
Thanks in advance,
Filip Vanderstappen

I believe that tab is only meant for Windows services. Linux services are
completely different and Sybase Central does not support them.

As Shuchit points out, "services" in Linux are very different things
from what exists on MS-Windows.
What is it you are hoping to do with Sybase Central that you think you
need a "services" tab?

| Well,
all our Windows installations has that tabpage. Our Linux-installations
doesn't.
I thought linux-installation would have that tabpage to.
It would be easier for us to let users start and stop the database when it
is necessary.

Depending on your distro, there are typically many ways to start/stop
"services".
For example, on a typical Red Hat system you can use various redhat GUI
tools, web-based admin tools (e.g. webmin), or (my prefered)
command-line ("service asa9 start", "/etc/init.d/asa9 start", etc...)
Besides, on a typical Linux configuration, users don't start/stop services.

| There is a technote on how to do create a Linux service with ASA. Check out:
