Change download default to "in all months"
|
|
| Breck Carter [TeamSybase] 2005-09-01, 9:23 am |
| Please change the default setting to "in all months" on the download
page. If you can't get Sybase to do it, then create YOUR OWN download
page, just for the good stuff. It's time to take control of your
destiny.
Never mind folks using a 14.4K dialup line and how they're gonna be
disappointed with the long wait for the longer list... that will be
the least of their problems, just wait till they actually *pick*
something to download :)
But the "6 months" default has been irritating people for years, it's
time to get rid of it.

| Agree. But I find the fact that you can't select the platform more
irritating. I love scrolling through pages of OS I have never seen.

| Russell, you can filter by platform. Once logged in to the download site,
click on the "My Account" link at the top of the page. From the "My
Account" page, click on the "Platforms" link in the left frame. This page
will allow you to choose what platforms you are interested in. Now, when
you're on the page that lists all the EBFes for SQL Anywhere, you can set
your filter to "Display PROFILED platforms IN ALL MONTHS", and you'll likely
no longer see "Compact Tru64" as the top choice.

Yeah, a whole buncha clickin' and clackin' and it *still* does not
affect the defaults, which remain "Display All platforms in the last 6
months".
It is a cheesy interface, always has been, always will be, until
iAnywhere Solutions takes control of their own destiny and creates
their *own* download page. Pull away from The Borg, Seven of Nine did
it, so can you!
And when you get around to it, don't make me type in my steenking
password EVERY time I go to the site, like my.sybase.com does.
"Portal" is just French for "Home Page".

Breck,
We passed your comment/request on to the Sybase.com team and the
response we got is:
- with the current setup, the behaviour affects all products
- the "all months" list for some products (ASE) is HUGE
- a request to make this user-configurable has been on the books for a
long time, but no work towards this has been prioritized
As always, thanks for the feedback. This new ping on the topic might be
enough to finally get it "prioritized"....might.

| I don't mind the 6 months issue so much but please let me set the platforms
I want to see.

FWIW the 6 months issue is a source of *endless* confusion... for
every person asking about it on the newsgroups (and there are a lot of
those), there are probably 10 others wandering in the wilderness :)
